BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Utah Valley University fell in the final game of the WAC regular season, 92-73, at CSU Bakersfield on Saturday at the Icardo Center. The result slides the Wolverines (14-15, 8-8) into the No. 5 seed at next week's WAC Tournament.
Eve Braslis and
Jordan Holland scored 16 points apiece to lead UVU while
Josie Williams added 10 off the bench and
Madison Grange had nine points and six rebounds. Alexxus Gilbert led the Roadrunners (13-16, 9-7) with 24 points, Ashley Austin finished with 19 and Nina Jorden had a game-high 12 rebounds and three blocks.
CSUB led 12-9 before a 15-5 run extended the lead to 13, 27-14, late in the first quarter. The lead swelled to as much as 25 in the second quarter and the Wolverines were unable to make a run the rest of the way.
Utah Valley shot 49.0 percent from the field overall including 7-for-14 from three, but CSU Bakersfield hit 51.4 percent overall and made 13 3-pointers. The Runners also turned 18 UVU turnovers into 28 points and had 16 second chance points on 18 offensive rebounds.
The Wolverines get the No. 5 seed and will draw No. 4 seed Kansas City in the quarterfinal round of the WAC Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Utah Valley and UMKC will tip at 2:30 p.m. PT on Wednesday.
