HONOLULU, Hawaii - Utah Valley faced off against first-time opponent UCLA in the day one of the Hawaii Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Volleyball Challenge, where the Wolverines dropped the contest against the Bruins in three sets, (15-25, 20-25, 19-25).
Jasmine Niutuipuivaha led the Wolverines in the first set with a pair of kills, but UVU underwent a 10-17 setback in the first as UCLA's Savvy Simo tallied five kills on the front row, proving too much for UVU's back line.
Set two held stronger for Utah Valley, as the Wolverines and the Bruins battled back and forth for the lead throughout the second with four lead changes between the two teams.
Kazna Tarawhiti kept UVU in the contest with five kills in set two, but came up short after a battle against UCLA, 20-25.
The Bruins took the lead over the Wolverines from the beginning of the third, while Tarawhiti tallied four more kills on the night and teammates
Tori Dorius and Niutupuivaha also added a pair of kills at the net.
Leaders for the Wolverines included sophomore outside hitter Tarawhiti with 10 kills and Niutupuivaha with five kills and four blocks.
