SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Utah Valley wrapped up its California road trip with a 5-0 setback to Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon at Stevens Stadium in Santa Clara.
"We played a team that was organized, disciplined, crafty, and that executed well," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "This game allowed us the opportunity to see what the highest level teams in the NCAA do, how they go about their business, and what it is like to pay attention to every detail. Having played this game will only make us tougher for the remainder of our matches. There were times in the game that when we had the ball, we were able to create some tempo. We will work hard to ensure that we find more of those moments moving forward."
The Broncos got on the scoreboard early, scoring in the third minute as Izzy D'aquila scored off the right post. Santa Clara also found the back of the net in the 25th minute to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
SCU scored three second-half goals to take the 5-0 victory. The Broncos out-shot UVU 22-7, including an 11-3 advantage on frame. SCU had nine corner kicks on the day.
Julianna Carter and
Siri Dahl led UVU with two shots apiece. Both of Carter's shots were on frame. Amber Trip and
Amanda Mangelson each had one shot each with Tripp's being on goal.
Saydee Bacdad played her first full match in the box for the Wolverines. She tallied an impressive six saves.
