Road trip takes UVU to UTRGV Saturday afternoon

OPENING TIP
Fresh off of picking up a big 58-54 win at New Mexico State on Thursday, Utah Valley University womnen's basketball has a quick turnaround with a Saturday afternoon contest at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Tip is set for 1 p.m. CT/noon MT.

Utah Valley (7-9, 4-0) knocked off the Aggies on Thursday, ending NM State's 23-game home winning streak in conference play, dating back to the 2015-16 season. The win also ended an 11-game losing streak to New Mexico State and gave UVU its sixth straight win overall, it's longest such streak since 2015-16.

Josie Williams scored 13 points, Jordan Holland had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Maria Carvalho scored 11 to go along with five assists and four steals. Nehaa Sohail added nine and Eve Braslis chipped in eight. 52 of Utah Valley's 58 points came from the starting five, with the other six points coming on a pair of Madison Grange 3-pointers.

During the six-game streak, the Wolverines have recorded their best six defensive outputs in terms of opponent points allowed. Utah Valley has limited opponents to 51.7 points per game on 31% shooting during the six wins.

Saturday's game is the final game of a two-game road trip, UVU's first road contests of the WAC season. Last time UVU and UTRGV met in Edinburg, Texas, Jordan Holland's buzzer-beater on an Alexis Cortez assist gave the Wolverines a 57-55 win.

ABOUT THE VAQUEROS
UT Rio Grande Valley moved to 3-1 in the WAC after coming back from 10 points down over the final three minutes to force overtime, where they prevailed 85-81 over Seattle U on Thursday night. Desirea Buerge led the Vaqueros with 27 points for the team's second straight win. Trelynn Tyler leads the UTRGV with an average of 14.9 points per game while Jordan Agustus is averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds.
