Utah Valley hosts Wyoming on Saturday at UCCU Center

UTAH VALLEY HOSTS WYOMING ON SATURDAY AT UCCU CENTER
  • Utah Valley wraps up a three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when the Wolverines take on Mountain West Conference foe Wyoming at the UCCU Center. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. (MT).
     
  • Fardaws Aimaq scored 20 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead Utah Valley in the 81-71 setback to in-state rival Southern Utah on Wednesday night. Aimaq scored his 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field and a 4 of 7 mark at the free throw line. His 15 rebounds marks the third time this season that he has recorded 15 or more boards in a game. Aimaq also had a season-high four blocks. Brinson made 7 of 12 shots from the floor and 3 of 5 from the free throw line for his 18 points. He also had five assists and four rebounds. Woodbury connected on 5 of 11 shots from the field, including a pair of shots from long range for his 15 points. He also pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists.
     
  • Aimaq leads the nation in rebounds per game at 14.5 boards a contest. He ranks second nationally in defensive rebounds per game (10.2) and 16th in offensive rebounds per game (4.2). The redshirt sophomore also ranks fourth in total rebounds (58) and double-doubles (3). Aimaq has pulled down 15 or more rebounds in three of UVU's four games this season.
     
  • Utah Valley ranks ninth in the nation in assists per game, dishing out 21.2 a contest. The Wolverines also rank 22nd in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.60.
     
  • Trey Woodbury earned College Sports Madness Player of the Week honors for Nov. 22-28 for his play in UVU's season-opening win over Adams State and his performance at BYU. Over the two games against ACU and BYU, Woodbury averaged 23.0 points 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 63.3 percent from the field and 70 percent from beyond the arc.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Saturday's game against Wyoming will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network, which is available at WACsports.com/Watch. Brandon Crow will be handling the play-by-play duties. The WAC Digital Network is also available on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku TV. UVU will also send the feed out on its YouTube channel. KSL TV will also stream the game on the KSL TV app. The game will also be broadcast over the radio waves as Jim McCulloch enters his 11th season as the Voice of the Wolverines. Josh Kallunki will be handling the color commentary duties on the radio. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960AM radio. A live stream of the radio broadcast will also be available at ESPN960Sports.com.

ABOUT WYOMING
Wyoming is 4-1 this season under new head coach Jeff Linder. The Pokes have won three straight with wins over Incarnate Word, Oregon State, and Denver. Wyoming's lone road game this season was a 76-73 victory at Oregon State. The team picked up an 83-61 win over Denver on Wednesday night, highlighted by a 31-point performance by freshman Marcus Williams, who had 20 of his 30 points in the first half. Williams leads Wyoming in scoring this season at 19.6 points per game. He's shooting 57.4 percent on the year and ranks second on the team in assists with 28. Sophomore guard Kenny Foster and junior guard Hunter Maldonado also average double figures at 18.3 and 12.6 points per game, respectively.  Maldonado leads the team on the glass, averaging 6.6 rebounds a game. As a team, Wyoming is averaging 84.8 points a game while limiting opponents to a 70.8 points per game average. The team is averaging nearly 10 threes a game.

SERIES HISTORY VS. WYOMING
Utah Valley and Wyoming meet on the basketball hardwood for the fifth time on Saturday. The Cowboys hold an all-time 3-1 advantage over the Wolverines. The game marks just the second time that the two teams have met in Orem. The last time the two teams faced off at the UCCU Center was in 2012 with Wyoming taking a 76-70 win. The last three games between UVU and Wyoming have been decided by six points or less. UVU picked up its first win in the series in the final seconds of the game last season in Laramie.

AIMAQ LEADS THE NATION ON THE BOARDS
Fardaws Aimaq leads the nation in rebounds per game, pulling down 14.5 boards a game. He ranks second nationally in defensive rebounds per game (10.2) and 16th in offensive rebounds per game (4.2). The redshirt sophomore also ranks fourth in total rebounds (58) and fourth in double-doubles (3). Aimaq has pulled down 15 or more rebounds in three of UVU's four games this season.

DISH MASTERS
Utah Valley is one of the top assists teams in the nation. The Wolverines rank ninth nationally in assists per game (21.2) and 30th in total assists (85). The team also ranks 22nd in the country in assist turnover ratio at 1.60. Individually,  Blaze Nield ranks 12th nationally in assist turnover ratio at 7.50. Trey Woodbury leads the team in assists at 4.2 a game, followed by Nield at 3.8 a contest.

AIMAQ RECORDS SECOND-MOST REBOUNDS IN A SINGLE GAME IN UVU HISTORY (TWICE)
Fardaws Aimaq  has pulled down 18 rebounds in two separate games this season. He first did it against Adams State on Nov. 26 in the UVU's season opener. He then did it again in a win over Westminster on Dec. 2. The 18 rebounds are the second-most boards ever recorded in a single game in UVU history. Baylee Steele holds the UVU single game record of 19 at BYU on Nov. 9, 2018.
