Fardaws Aimaq recorded a 12-point, 18-rebound double-double to lead Utah Valley to a 79-71 win over Westminster on Wednesday night at the UCCU Center.
Â
With the win, Utah Valley improves to 2-1 overall and remains perfect at home this season.
Â
Trailing by one point, 10-9, just over three minutes into the game, Utah Valley's Overton threw down a monstrous dunk on a fast break that sparked a 22-4 UVU run over a nine-minute span as the Wolverines jumped out to a 31-14 lead with nearly eight minutes to go in the half. UVU then held on to its lead over the final 7:51 to take a 42-25 into the break.
Â
Utah Valley held a 55-36 lead with 13:19 remaining in the game, but Westminster used a 19-5 run over the next 7:37 to cut the UVU lead to just five points, 60-55, with 5:42 to play. The Griffins held UVU without a field goal for over three minutes until Darthard connected on a floater down the lane and then knocked down a three with 3:43 to play, helping push the UVU lead to a 66-56 advantage.
Â
Overton connected on 7 of 10 shots from the field for his 16 points. He also pulled down three rebounds and had a pair of steals. Aimaq scored his 12 points on 6 of 13 shots from the field. His 18 boards matches the 18 rebounds he had against Adams State in the season opener. The 18 rebounds are the second-most boards ever recorded in a single game in UVU history. The UVU single game rebounds record is 19 recorded by
Baylee Steele against BYU on Nov. 9, 2018.

Trey Woodbury was also in double figures with 11 points.
Â
Utah Valley connected on 45 percent of its shots on the night, while limiting Westminster to a 41 percent mark.
Â
