Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nevada – UNLV scored four runs in the first inning and pulled away late, snapping Utah Valley University's five-game winning streak, 9-2, on Saturday at the Marucci Desert Classic.

At 6-2, UVU's record matches the best eight-game start in the program's NCAA Division I era. At 5-1, this Wolverine team had the best six-game start since the first DI season in 2004. 
 
The Wolverines scored in the top of the first but the Rebels (6-3) hit a back-to-back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 4-1 lead after one. UNLV led 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth but struck with three more runs to extend the lead.
 
Basia Query went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Wolverines. Justine Federe was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for UNLV, which won its fifth straight. Her two-run home run started the scoring for the Rebels in the first. Caitlin Covington and Samantha Diaz followed Federe with solo homers. 

Madison Carr led off the third with a base hit and scored on an RBI single by Query. Jade Miller and Siena Sandoval collected the other hits on the day for the Wolverines, who finished with five while UNLV had eight hits. The Rebels took advantage of six walks and two errors by Utah Valley. 

Katie Zuniga pitched 4.1 innings out of the bullpen and surrendered just one unearned run on four hits. Jenny Bressler got the win for UNLV after allowed one earned run (two total) on five hits in four innings. 

The Wolverines will wrap up the weekend on Sunday with rematches against Weber State at 9 a.m. PT/10 a.m. MT. Utah Valley defeated the Wildcats 6-2 on Friday. UVU will then take on UNLV again at 11:30 a.m. PT/12:30 p.m. MT.
