OPENING TIP
Utah Valley University begins a stretch of four of the final five regular season games on the road this week, starting at CSU Bakersfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT.
The Wolverines (9-14) split two home games last week, defeating UT Rio Grande Valley (61-54) before falling to New Mexico State (65-58). UVU is currently tied for third with CSU Bakersfield and Seattle U and 6-5 in the WAC standings. Grand Canyon (9-2) leads the conference while Kansas City (9-3) is in second.
Eve Braslis scored 18 points to help UVU snap a five-game losing streak in the win over UTRGV.
Alexis Cortez added 17 and
Jordan Holland finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
In Saturday's loss to NM State, the Wolverines took a three-point lead into the fourth quarter but the Aggies got hot, hitting 7-for-11 from the field, including their last six attempts of the game. UVU was just 2-for-16 in the fourth quarter.
Madison Grange tied her season-high with 11 points while Holland also scored 11 for Utah Valley and
Maria Carvalho chipped in 10.
CSU Bakersfield's Andie Easley hit a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired the last time UVU and CSUB met, on Jan. 23 in Orem. The Wolverines led 53-47 with 2:50 remaining but Runners finished the game on an 8-0 run. Holland had 20 points to lead all scorers in the game.Â
ABOUT THE RUNNERS
CSU Bakersfield (14-10) split two road games last week, topping Chicago State before falling at Kansas City. The Runners lead the all-time series 16-6 and have won two straight including the earlier win in Orem. Jayden Eggleston leads CSUB at 11.9 points per game while Ashley Austin averages 10.6 per contest.Â
COMING UP
The Wolverines travel to Grand Canyon for a Saturday afternoon contest at 2 p.m. Next week, UVU will play its final home game on Wednesday, Feb. 26 against California Baptist.Â
