RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Utah Valley couldn't overcome a late cold spell as the Wolverines dropped a 73-66 decision at California Baptist on Wednesday night at CBU Events Center.
The Lancers used a 14-2 run to surge ahead late and UVU was unable to recover. With the loss, Utah Valley drops to 11-18 on the year, including 5-9 in WAC play. CBU improves to 20-8 on the season and 9-4 in conference games.

Isaiah White started the game off with a driving dunk as the Wolverines got off to a 6-2 lead with 17:24 left in the first half. California Baptist responded with a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 15-8 advantage with 12:27 remaining in the opening half. After both teams exchanged baskets,
Jamison Overton sparked a 9-0 run to help UVU retake the lead, 19-18, with 7:30 to go in the first half. Both teams would play even the rest of the way as
Brandon Averette knocked in a driving, reverse layup just before the buzzer to give the Wolverines a 29-28 advantage going into the half.Â

Both teams went back and forth as the second half started off with five lead changes in the first four minutes. After the Lancers took the lead,
TJ Washington spurred an 8-2 run to regain the lead, 42-39, with 12:16 to go in the game. The Wolverines pushed its lead to its largest of the night, 55-49, on a corner three by
Trey Woodbury with 6:31 left in the game. California Baptist then held UVU without a field goal for five as the Lancers used a 14-2 run to take control of the game, 67-59, with 38 seconds remaining. CBU would convert its final 10 free throws to ice the game away and secure the 73-66 win.  Â

The Wolverines shot 43.9 percent from the field but finished just 3-15 from beyond the arc. UVU held the Lancers to just 40 percent from the floor and just 5-21 from deep. The Lancers converted 13 Wolverine turnovers into 16 points and won the battle on the boards, outrebounding UVU 40-38 for the game.Â

Washington led four Wolverines in double figures with 14 points, on 6-7 from the foul line, to go along with four rebounds. Washington's six assists extends his streak of games with at least five assists to seven games, bringing him into a tie for the second-longest streak in school history. Averette and Woodbury each chipped in 13 points and White added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Emmanuel Olojakpoke swatted five more shots to bring his total to 79 on the season.
Utah Valley returns home to wrap up the regular season, taking on Kansas City in the UCCU Center on Thursday, March 5. Tip is set for 7:00 pm M.T. and will be broadcasted on the WAC Digital Network and ESPN960 AM. The Wolverines then host Chicago State in the season finale on Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 pm M.T. in the UCCU Center.
