Le'Tre Darthard led three other Wolverines in double figures with a career-high 19 points to lead Utah Valley to a 73-60 win over WAC newcomer Tarleton on Friday night at the UCCU Center.
With the win, UVU evens its record at 6-6 overall on the season and remains undefeated in WAC play with a perfect 4-0 record. Tarleton falls to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Tarleton jumped out to a 9-3 lead four minutes into the game, but UVU rallied right back as
Le'Tre Darthard knocked down a three to spark a 7-0 UVU run to take its first lead of the game, 10-9, with 12:18 to go in the first half. The two teams then battled through a pair of lead changes and a tie as UVU took a 23-21 advantage with 4:28 to go. The Wolverines then outscored the Texans 15-7 the rest of the half to take a 38-28 lead into the break.
UVU and Tarleton played evenly through the first nine minutes of the first half before the Wolverines got it going offensively, going on a 16-4 run over a five-minute span to jump out to their biggest lead of the game, 64-45, with 6:25 to play. The run would prove enough to secure the Wolverines the 73-60 win.
Darthard scored his 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting, including a 5 of 9 mark from long range. He also dished out a pair of assists and pulled down a rebound in 25 minutes of play.
Jamison Overton scored 18 points on the night on 6 of 11 shooting, including a perfect 2 of 2 mark from beyond the arc. Overton also pulled down seven rebounds to go along with four assists and three steals.
Trey Woodbury helped with 15 points on the night, connecting on 5 of 10 shots from the field with a pair of threes. Woodbury tallied seven assists with five rebounds.
Fardaws Aimaq recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds in 24 minutes of play. Aimaq got in early foul trouble and his time was limited in the first half. The redshirt sophomore hit 4 of 6 shots from the field and made 3 of 4 shots at the charity stripe. He also had two blocks and an assist.
As a team, Utah Valley shot 58.1 percent (25 of 43) from the field, including a 58.8 percent (10 of 17) mark from three. The Wolverines held Tarleton to 38.5 percent shooting. UVU outrebounded the Texans 34-18 on the night.
