Everlyn Kemboi won her first race as a Wolverine en route to leading the Utah Valley University women to a first-place finish at the Utah Open on Thursday at Sunnyside Park in Salt Lake City. The UVU men posted a runner-up finish on the day thanks to a fourth-place individual finish from junior
Hawk Call.Â

Kemboi, who is a former NJCAA Cross Country National Champion for El Paso Community College, won her first race in a UVU uniform on Thursday after traversing the 5K course in 18-minutes and 16.6-seconds to lead the way for the Utah Valley women. Freshmen
Elizabeth Zwahlen,
Madison White, and
Abby Linford also all posted top-10 finishes for the Wolverines by placing fourth (18:54.0), sixth (19:00.5), and 10th (19:25.4), respectively.
Miah Weaver Chambers,
Kate Richardson, and
Alysa Lindley too finished in the top-25 of the four-team meet by placing 13th (19:34.6), 16th (19:44.5), and 25th (20:12.0), respectively.Â

The UVU women won the meet with 28 total points to best in-state foe Utah State by four points (32). With a number of top runners sitting out the meet for each team, the eighth-ranked host Utah Utes finished third with 70 points and Idaho State didn't have enough competitors to register a team score. Â

Call led the way for the UVU men on the day in the men's 6K by taking fourth with a time of 19:10.8. Freshman
Cameron Jacobs too posted a top-10 finish for the Wolverine men by placing 10th with a time of 19:36.4, followed by
Joshua Peters in 15th (19:54.1),
Thomas Pickford in 22nd (20:13.11), and
Troy Miller in 25th (20:17.8).
Jorge Vazquez,
Logan Anderson, and
Andrew Blackham all finished in the top-40 by placing 33rd (20:42.1), 36th (20:55.4), and 40th (21:13.2).Â

The Wolverine men finished second in the men's 6K with 43 points, while Utah State won the men's race with 18 points. Â

Thursday's meet marked the regular-season finale for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines will now prepare for the WAC Cross Country Championships that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30 at UC Riverside's Ag Ops Course in Riverside, Calif. A season ago, both the UVU men and women earned runner-up finishes at the conference championship and
Maddie Bench Empey led the women by placing second, while
Britain Reynolds paced the men by taking third.Â
