Utah Valley shuts out WAC rival Seattle U, 2-0

OREMJulianna Carter and Amber Tripp each scored goals to lead Utah Valley to a 2-0 shutout win over WAC rival Seattle U on Thursday night at Clyde Field. The win secures the Wolverines a spot at the WAC Tournament in November.

Utah Valley improves to 9-5-2 overall and 4-1-2 in WAC play. Seattle U falls to 7-6-4 overall and 1-5-2 in league play.

"It was a complete performance tonight," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "From minute one to minute 90 it was one of our best performances of the season. It's a great time to be peeking and we beat a very good team tonight."

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in the 30th minute after Tripp led Carter with a pass from the middle of the field into the box. Carter settled it and then punched it forward into the net with her right foot to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. The goal is the third of the season for Carter, who has now registered goals in back-to-back matches.

Tripp stole the ball after Seattle U tried to clear it from inside the box in the 66th minute and fired it into the back of the net to gives the Wolverines a 2-0 cushion. The goal is the third of the season for Tripp and the 19th of her career.

The Wolverines had eight shots, including three on frame. Heather Stainbrook, Sadie Brockbank, and Carter led UVU with two shots each. UVU had eight corner kicks to Seattle U's one.

The Wolverine defense picks up its eighth shutout of the season. UVU allowed SU only one shot on goal on the night. Brooklyn Nielsen led UVU in the box with one save.

Utah Valley will continue WAC play on Saturday in the team's home finale. UVU's three seniors, Nielsen, Breanna DeWaal, and Tripp will be honored prior to the match. Kickoff for Saturday's match is set for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
