NORCO, Calif.—California Baptist found the back of the net with just over six minutes to play in regulation to defeat Utah Valley, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at the Silverlakes Soccer Complex in Norco, California.
Utah Valley falls to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in WAC play, while CBU improves to 4-6-1 overall and 2-2-0 in league play.
"I'm not pleased with the performance today," said Utah Valley head coach. "We were lethargic and reactive. We need to be sharper mentally. We are going to try and regroup and put out a better performance on Sunday in Seattle."
Tied 0-0 in the 84th minute, California Baptist had a long throw-in towards the box where it bounced around. Taylor Summit caught it and fired a shot just outside the 18 into the back of the net for what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Utah Valley outshot the CBU 19-17 on the day. The Lancers had five shots on goal to UVU's three. Each team had three corner kicks.
Sadie Brockbank led the Wolverines with a match-high five shots, including one on frame.
Breanna Eves had three shots, while
Heather Stainbrook,
Julianna Carter,
Breanna DeWaal, and
Amber Tripp each had two.
Brooklyn Nielsen led UVU in goal with four saves in the box.
Utah Valley continues WAC road play on Sunday as the team travels to play league rival Seattle U. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (MT). The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
