OREM—Utah Valley University women's soccer head coach
Chris Lemay has announced his program's 2022 signing class. The Wolverines signed five players on Wednesday who will join the team for the 2022 season.
Signing National Letters of Intent with the Wolverines are Taylor Nelson (Monroe, Wash.), Lenah Scicluna (Clarkston, Mich.), Pyper Vance (Saratoga Springs, Utah), Maya Wells (San Anselmo, Calif.), and Leah Wolf (Rochester Hills, Mich.).
Nelson is a 5-foot-3 forward and was a four-year varsity player for Monroe High School in Monroe, Washington. She was a four-time all-conference honoree for MHS. She scored 48 career goals. She played club soccer for Crossfire Premier ECNL and DA.
"Taylor has a knack to score goals but she is versatile and can also play as a wide back," said Lemay. "Taylor comes to us from a great ECNL program in the Seattle area, she is surrounded by top level players and coaches that will have her ready for her transition to the D1 level."
Scicluna is a 5-foot-2 center midfielder from Clarkston, Michigan. She played club soccer for Waza FC and Nationals Soccer. Scicluna won a Girls Academy national championship in 2021.
"Lenah is a box to box midfielder that likes to compete and will bring grit to the program," said Lemay. "She is a hard-nosed defender but can also create on the attacking side for us. She is very solid technically and tactically and has experience playing in a club environment that is one of the best in the country."
Vance, a 5-foot-7 midfielder/forward, prepped at Westlake High School where she was a four-time all-region honoree. She was the top scorer for WHS. Vance played for the Olympic Development Program for three years and led Utah Celtic FC to four State Cup Championships, three regional titles, and a national finals appearance.
"Pyper is a local product of Celtic FC," said Lemay. "We have a number of current players that have come from Celtic and we are excited to welcome Pyper to the crew. She is very comfortable on the ball and has good vision. She will fit into our midfield nicely."
Wells, a 5-foot-4 midfielder, prepped at Archie Williams High School in Marin County, California. Wells played club soccer for Marin FC ECNL. She led her team to back-to-back State Cup Norcal Championships in 2018 and 2019. She also won the Surf Cup Championship in both 2018 and 2019 and the ECNL National Playoffs in 2021.
"Maya has an exceptional left foot and can play in a couple of different roles for us," said Lemay. "She is a part of a nationally competitive ECNL program in Northern California. She has the ability to be dangerous in the attack with her ability to strike from distance or play in a teammate with a final pass."
Wolf is a 5-foot-7 goalkeeper from Oakland, Michigan. She prepped at Rochester Adams High School and played club soccer for Waza FC and Nationals Soccer. Wolf won a national championship for her club during the 2020-21 season.
"Leah is one of the top rated goalkeepers in the country for the 2022 class," said Lemay. "She has experience with the US U18 National team. She is a National Champion having won the GA championship last season. Leah is mature, composed and has great feet which will fit our style of play well."
