OREM—Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay has announced that University of Utah sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Peterson has signed with UVU and will transfer to play for the Wolverines.
"Chelsea has unbelievable experience having played and been a consistent starter in the PAC-12," said Lemay. "Her leadership and ability to command her box are strengths that we look for in a goalkeeper. She is a local product that has played club and high school soccer with a number of our current players and she will fit in nicely with our team culture."
Peterson, a 5-foot-7 keeper from Orem, played and started all 19 games for Utah last season. She picked up six wins and four draws in the box with 77 saves. Peterson recorded a 1.21 goals allowed average and a .762 save percentage. She also played in nine games during the COVID 2020 season, recording 35 saves and a shutout.
Peterson prepped at Orem High School where she earned First Team All-State honors after leading the Tigers to the state title in 2018. She garnered Region X Goalkeeper of the Year honors and was named the Daily Herald Utah Valley MVP. Peterson registered nine shutouts as a senior and allowed just one goal in four state playoff games.
The redshirt sophomore was a five-time Utah State Cup champion with her club team, Utah Celtic FC. She also led Celtic FC to a region IV title and helped the team to a third place showing at the national championships. Peterson was a two-time FWRL Desert Premier League champion and was a 2019 USYS national champion. She won the Golden Glove award after being named Best 11. Peterson played for the Utah ODP team.
Peterson has three years of eligibility remaining and will join the Wolverines this spring.
