PALM DESERT, Calif. – After dropping head-to-head rounds to Boise State and in-state foe Southern Utah on Monday, the Utah Valley University women's golf team will enter Tuesday's final round at the Mountain Match Play Classic at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California in fourth place with 5.0 team points.
 
Despite dropping both match-play rounds as a team, freshman Macy Robertson led the Wolverines on Monday by winning both of her individual rounds with scores of 2 up and 2 and 1. 
 
Freshman Caylyn Ponich was next for UVU on the day by claiming a victory and a tie, while fellow freshman Victoria Estrada recorded an individual victory and junior Bailey Henley picked up a tie. 
 
In the Monday's opening round of play against Boise State, UVU freshmen Robertson and Ponich both defeated their opponents while Henley tied hers for 2.5 total team points for the Wolverines in the head-to-head battle against the Broncos. Boise State would win the match, however, by a score of 3.5 to 2.5 after claiming three individual victories along with a tie.
 
Robertson won her opening round over Boise State's Nicole Suppelsa by a score of 2 up while Ponich claimed hers by a score of 2 and 1 over BSU's Taylor Koch. Henley finished her opening round halved (or tied) with Boise State's Emma Yang. UVU's Estrada dropped a tightly contested opening round to BSU's Elli Gordon by a score of 1 up, while Utah Valley freshman Anna Lesa fell to Lexi Perry, 6 and 5, and Lauren Taylor found herself on the wrong end of a 9 and 7 score to Cora Mickelson.
 
In the nightcap against SUU, Robertson and Estrada both registered individual wins for UVU while Ponich recorded a tie. Estrada had the best score for the Wolverines against the T-Birds by defeating SUU's Lexi Hamel 4 and 3, while Robertson followed by besting Hannah Gleason 2 and 1, and Ponich and Tori Thomas halved (or tied). SUU's Pluem Yongyuan defeated UVU's Henley, 6 and 5, while SUU's Cornelia Karlsson topped Lesa, 4 and 3, and Southern Utah's Tanyator ThalangKarn won a tightly contested battle over Taylor, 2 and 1.  
 
Also on the day, Boise State tied Wyoming 3.0 to 3.0, while SUU and Wyoming also split the other round at 3.0 to 3.0. 
 
After two rounds of action, Boise State and SUU are tied for first in the team score battle with 6.5 points apiece, while Wyoming sits in third with 6.0 points, and UVU is in fourth with 5.0.
 
The Mountain Match Play Classic will conclude on Tuesday with the final 18 holes. UVU will face-off against Wyoming while SUU will face Boise State beginning at 8 a.m. MT/7 a.m. PT at the Classic Club.
