OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University men's soccer and head coach Greg Maas hope the third time's the charm as the team expects to open the season on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Air Force.
Saturday's game comes three weeks since the planned opener against Grand Canyon, before COVID-19 hit that program, and one week after weather forced a stoppage of play for Incarnate Word.
"With our first two matches being canceled, it's been a really difficult start for the boys this spring. Match experience matters most and we're now forced to play catch-up with the rest of the conference," said Maas "That said, this team can't wait to get on the pitch and finally compete. Air Force is a very good side, and it'll be an exciting WAC opener for our program in Colorado Springs."
Utah Valley is the lone WAC team to have not played a single game to date, while Air Force is 1-0-1 after winning at Dixie State and playing to a scoreless draw at UNLV. Saturday marks the home opener for the Falcons.
The game against Incarnate Word has been rescheduled for Monday, March 8 at 2 p.m. on Clyde Field in Orem. UVU and UTRGV also will play a day earlier than originally planned, with the updated contest now Friday, March 8 at 2 p.m. MT in Orem.
Those contests begin a stretch of three straight home games in a span of nine days, capped with in-state rival Dixie State on March 13, in the inaugural Old Hammer Rivalry game between the men's soccer programs.
