UVU wraps regular season play at Tarleton

OREM, Utah — After taking care of business on the first half of its trip through the Lone Star state, Utah Valley University wraps up the WAC regular season with two games at Tarleton. The Wolverines (10-5, 8-4) will take on the Texans on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 2 and 3, at 6 p.m. CT/5 p.m. MT on both days. The games can be seen live on the WAC Digital Network.

Utah Valley is in search of the all-important second place finish in the WAC regular season. California Baptist already clinched the regular season title and is not yet eligible for the NCAA Tournament. Should the Lancers win the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas in next week, the WAC's second place team in the regular season would earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament

UVU and Grand Canyon are the two teams vying for that spot and are both deadlocked at 8-4 in league play.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines notched a pair of big road wins at UT Rio Grande Valley over the weekend. A third-quarter run in Friday's opener, when UVU hit 13-of-18 from the field (72.2%), helped them outscore the Vaqueros 28-15, to turn a 3-point halftime deficit into a 10-point advantage after three.

A day later, another run in the second half and a couple of late steals helped secure the sweep. Josie Williams finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, Maria Carvalho scored 11 points and pulled down six boards and Nehaa Sohail added nine points, six rebounds and six assists for UVU.

ABOUT TARLETON
Tarleton is 8-13 overall and 3-7 in the WAC as the Texans wind down their inaugural season in NCAA Division I. The Texans are playing their best basketball of the season, as winners of four of their last five games. They split two games against New Mexico State over the weekend in El Paso and are also 4-2 at home with four home games left. Tarleton also hosts UTRGV this coming week. Marissa Escamilla and Iyana Dorsey are the top two scorers on the team with averages of 13.5 and 13.3 points per game, respectively.
