Cassidy McCormick scored the lone goal for Utah Valley in a 4-1 road loss at No. 17 Brigham Young on Wednesday at South Field in Provo, Utah.

With the loss, Utah Valley falls to 6-4-2 overall. BYU improves to 5-3 on the season.
"We are going to focus on taking away the positives from this match because there were plenty of positives to take from it," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "There were also a lot of learning opportunities from this match. That's what we'll do. We will take the positives with us and try and implement those into our upcoming matches. We'll also learn from some of the areas where we can get better. There were spells within the match where we moved and kept the ball well and then there were areas where we should have had more composure and could have been more patient."

BYU scored a quick goal in the fourth minute as Mikayla Colohan found the back of the net to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.

Utah Valley responded in the 19th minute as
Anna Pickering raced down the right side of the field and into the box where she fired a shot that was blocked. A BYU defender then tried to clear the ball, but
Cassidy McCormick blocked it and fired the ball into the back of the net to tie things up, 1-1.

The Cougars were awarded a penalty kick in the 30th minute and Colohan converted to give BYU a 2-1 advantage.

Utah Valley nearly tied things up in the 58th minute after
London Miller's shot from the right side hit the far post and bounced out.

BYU got out on the break and Rachel McCarthy found the back of the net in the 66th minute to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead.

BYU scored a late goal in the 90th minute.

BYU outshot the Wolverines 26-12 on the day, including a 13-4 advantage on frame. The Wolverines held the edge on corner kicks, 8-7.
Heather Stainbrook led UVU with four shots, including one on goal.
Sadie Brockbank and Miller each had two goals.

Isabel Jones-Dawe led UVU in the box, playing all 90 minutes with a season-best nine saves.

Utah Valley steps back into WAC play on Saturday as the team travels down I-15 to St. George to take on Dixie State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network.
