ST. GEORGE, Utah—
London Miller recorded a brace with a goal in each half, including the game winner to help lead the Utah Valley women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Dixie State in the Old Hammer Rivalry match on Saturday at Trailblazer Stadium.
Â
With the win, Utah Valley improves to 7-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in WAC play. Dixie State falls to 2-7-1 overall and 2-5-0 in league play.
Â
"I'm very pleased with the execution on our set pieces today," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We've given ourselves a lot of chances that we haven't been converting on and so to score a pair of goals on them today was nice. It's nice to get three points, especially on the road in some windy conditions on a difficult surface. We're very pleased to get out of here with a win."
Â
Utah Valley was first to get on the scoreboard as
Grace Beeston sent in a corner kick to
Amber Tripp, who then sent a cross into the box.
London Miller one-touched the pass from Tripp with her left foot into the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.
Â
The Wolverines scored again in the 42nd minute after
Heather Stainbrook sent in a line drive free kick into the box from 25 yards out.
Sydney Bushman was able to get a head on it and place it into the net to give Utah Valley a 2-0 advantage.
Â
Isabel Jones-Dawe sent a ball from the back line all the way down past midfield to
Sydney Bushman, who then passed it to a streaking
Anna Pickering down the right side. Pickering dribbled it once and then sent the ball to Miller inside the box. Miller one-touched it with her left foot into the back of the net as the Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 55th minute.
Â
Dixie State scored a goal in the 63rd and 80th minutes to get within a goal, but couldn't get any closer as UVU secured the 3-2 victory.
Â
Utah Valley outshot Dixie State 14-10, including a 9-5 advantage on frame. The Wolverines had eight corner kicks to DSU's two. Jones-Dawe recorded three saves in the box for UVU.
Â
Miller, Brockbank, Bushman, and
Lily Haskins each had two shots on the day.
Breanna Eves,
Julianna Carter, Tripp, Pickering,
Breanna DeWaal, and
Amanda Mangelson each had one.
Â
Utah Valley now returns home to take on WAC rival Seattle U in a two-match set on Thursday and Saturday at Clyde Field. Thursday's match is set to kickoff at 6 p.m., while Saturday's will begin at noon.
