MISSOULA, Montana — Peyton Prigge hit a three-run home run and drove in four as Utah Valley University completed a doubleheader sweep, 8-3, at the University of Montana on Saturday. The Wolverines won the opening game, 12-0 in five innings.
Prigge's home run came during a two-out rally in the first.
Siena Sandoval walked,
Kyla Hardy singled and Prigge followed with a home run to left-center, her third of the season for the Wolverines (10-11), who clinched the weekend series with tomorrow's finale slated for noon MT.
The Grizzlies (6-17) got one back in the bottom of the first and two more in the second to tie the game at 3-3. Cami Sellers doubled home a run during the second for Montana.
Hardy was 3-for-4 and scored twice and doubled home
Linnah Rebolledo in the third. The Wolverines manufactured two runs after the double with Prigge and
Aubree Hogan both picking up RBIs with sacrifice flies.
Rebolledo hit a solo home run with two outs in the fourth, and Sandoval did the same with two outs in the seventh. Utah Valley hit five home runs over the course of Friday's doubleheader.
Montana had the first two runners reach in the bottom of the sixth before
Devyn Cretz entered the contest for Utah Valley. Cretz got a liner to Danyé Albritton at short and UVU was able to double up the runner at second for two quick outs. After a hit batter, Cretz got Sellers to fly out to right to end the threat.
Kaycie Jensen picked up the win in the circle for the Wolverines. She pitched 3.1 innings in relief without allowing a run and striking out two.
In the first game, four different players had two-hit games while Hardy and
Rien Milliken both homered. Rebolledo had two hits and drove in three runs while
Emery Nielson also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs while also scoring twice. The Wolverines finished with 11 hits in the win.
Brooke Carter tossed 4.2 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four to pick up the win.
Hardy led off a four-run second inning with a home run to left, her third of the season. Later in the inning, Nielson tripled home Prigge and then scored when
Jade Miller reached on a bunt single.
Basia Query doubled to put runners at second and third before Rebolledo's RBI groundout made it a 4-0 game.
Milliken followed Hardy's leadoff homer in the second with one of her own in the third for her team-high fourth home run of the season.
Utah Valley then added on seven runs in the fifth to pull away from the Grizzlies.
The Wolverines set 12 hitters to the plate in the inning and scored the seven runs on five hits. Prigge doubled home pinch-runner
Jaeden Barajas and later scored on Nielson single. UVU scored two runs in the frame on wild pitches and also got a two-run single from Rebolledo and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sandoval.
