MISSOULA, Mont. — Utah Valley got a three-run home run from
Basia Query and another complete game from
Devyn Cretz as the senior duo led the team to a 5-2 win and a three-game series sweep at Montana on Sunday.
The game was tied 1-1 in the fourth with two runners on when Query hit the Wolverines' (11-11) sixth home run of the series to help UVU to its fourth straight win overall. The victory also gives Utah Valley a 4-0 record against the Grizzlies (6-18) this season.
The Wolverines trailed 1-0 in the third and the bases were empty with two down when
Siena Sandoval doubled,
Rien Milliken walked and then
Kyla Hardy singled home Sandoval to tie the game.
In the fourth,
Madison Carr — who was 3-for-3 in the game — led off with a single, and
Emery Nielson walked before Query lined a pitch over the wall in left-center.
Montana got a single run the in the fifth to cut it to 5-2, but
Linnah Rebolledo answered with a solo home run in the sixth. The Grizzlies loaded the bases in the sixth with two outs, but Cretz got the three-hole hitter, Madison McGrath, to ground out to Hardy at second to end the threat.
Cretz (5-5) allowed 11 scattered hits — nine of which were singles — and struck out seven. She stranded 11 Grizzly baserunners in the contest.
Up next for the Wolverines is a Tuesday doubleheader at Utah starting at 1 p.m. MT.
