Wolverines win opener in five, 12-0

MISSOULA, Montana — Utah Valley University opened a three-game series at the University of Montana with an 12-0 win in five innings in the first game of a Friday afternoon doubleheader.

Four different players had two-hit games while Kyla Hardy and Rien Milliken both homered. Linnah Rebolledo had two hits and drove in three runs while Emery Nielson also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs while also scoring twice. The Wolverines (9-11) finished with 11 hits in the win. Brooke Carter tossed 4.2 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four to pick up the win.

Hardy led off a four-run second inning with a home run to left, her third of the season. Later in the inning, Nielson tripled home Peyton Prigge and then scored when Jade Miller reached on a bunt single. Basia Query doubled to put runners at second and third before Rebolledo's RBI groundout made it a 4-0 game.

Milliken followed Hardy's leadoff homer in the second with one of her own in the third for her team-high fourth home run of the season. Utah Valley then added on seven runs in the fifth to pull away from the Grizzlies.

The Wolverines sent 12 hitters to the plate in the inning and scored the seven runs on five hits. Prigge doubled home pinch-runner Jaeden Barajas and later scored on Nielson single. UVU scored two of the runs in the inning on wild pitches and also got a two-run single from Rebolledo and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Siena Sandoval.

The teams will play game two of the twin bill on Friday afternoon.
