PHOENIX, Ariz. – Utah Valley dropped its season finale at Grand Canyon, 74-64, on the road in GCU Arena in Phoenix. The Wolverines and 'Lopes finished the season as co-champions in the Western Athletic Conference. With the loss, UVU finished the regular season with an 11-10 record, including a 9-4 record in WAC play. GCU wrapped up its year at 15-6 and 9-3 in conference play.

Evan Cole triple got the Wolverines going as UVU raced out to a 15-5 lead with 13 minutes to go in the first half. Utah Valley went cold from the field, making one shot from the field over a five-minute stretch, as Grand Canyon countered with a 17-2 surge to take a 22-17 lead with 7:54 left in the opening period.
Colby Leifson hit a three to end the drought as UVU tied the game back up at 22 apiece. Both teams exchanged mini runs as GCU at scored UVU 13-8 over the final seven minutes to take a 35-30 lead into the half.

After Grand Canyon extended its lead to nine with under 16 minutes remaining, the Wolverines scored five-straight points to cut the deficit to 45-41 with 14:20 to go in the game. UVU was unable to get any closer as GCU used a 12-5 run to push its lead out to 57-46 with 8:34 remaining. Another 12-5 surge by the 'Lopes put the game out of reach, 73-58, and Grand Canyon coasted to a 74-64 victory.

The Wolverines shot 46 percent from the field, however the 'Lopes shot 50 percent from the floor. A night after winning the battle inside, UVU was outrebounded 37-27, leading to 14-0 disadvantage in second-chance points and a 34-26 deficit in points in the paint.
Aimaq led the Wolverines with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Jamison Overton finished with 13 points before fouling out and Leifson chipped in a season-high eight points on a pair of threes pointers.
Trey Woodbury led UVU with six assists to go along with seven points, four rebounds, and a pair of steals.
Utah Valley heads to Las Vegas for the Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament at Orleans Arena. The Wolverines will be the second seed and have received a bye to the semifinals of the conference tournament. UVU will play the winner of New Mexico State and UT Rio Grande Valley on Friday, March 12, at 9:00 p.m. MT. With a win in the semifinals, the Wolverines would play in its first conference championship in school history on Saturday, March 13, at 7:00 p.m. MT with a chance to clinch the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
