LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Utah Valley University enters the 2021 WAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 Chicago State in the second of three quarterfinals on Wedneday at 4:30 p.m. PT/5:30 p.m. MT from the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ in the U.S. and on the WAC Digital Network for international viewers.
The Wolverines (12-5) registered their best record in Western Athletic Conference play since joining the league prior to the 2013-14 season, finishing league play at 10-4. UVU also enters the tournament on a season-high five game winning streak.
UVU had four players receive All-WAC honors on Monday, led by first team picks Maria Carvalho and Josie Williams. Shay Fano and Nehaa Sohail received honorable mention All-WAC with Carvalho also being named to the All-Defensive Team and Fano to the All-Newcomer Team.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines completed their four-game trip through Texas with a perfect 4-0 record after notching back-to-back wins last Tuesday and Wednesday at Tarleton. UVU held of a late-charging Texans squad in both games. In the first game, Carvalho led the with 16 points while Shay Fano added 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Wolverines led by 16 in the fourth quarter, but Tarleton nearly came all the way back before time ran out in a 60-58 win.
A day later, the Texans again trailed by double digits and nearly erased the deficit, getting within three, but an 8-0 run by UVU put the game away. Carvalho led the way with 19 points for UVU as the Wolverines picked up a 67-54 victory.
