UVU returns to WAC play at CBU

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University returns to WAC play with a three-game series at California Baptist, starting with a Friday afternoon doubleheader at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT. The series finale is Saturday at noon PT/1 p.m. MT.

The Wolverines (12-16) got a career-high nine strikeouts from Devyn Cretz and some clutch two-out hitting to defeat Utah State, 2-1, on Tuesday. Cretz allowed just four hits and notched her eighth straight complete-game start.

|The bases were empty with two down in the top of the seventh when Basia Query singled and Linnah Rebolledo doubled her home for what turned into the game-winning run. Cretz then retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh. The win gave UVU its second win in as many games over Utah State, with the two still scheduled to meet one more time, on April 21 in Orem.

Rien Milliken is batting .379 to lead the team and is also tied three others with a team-high four home runs.  Basia Query, Peyton Prigge and Siena Sandoval have also homered four time, while Linnah Rebolledo is batting .368 with three home runs and a team-high 22 runs batted in.

ON DECK
Utah Valley has a midweek game on Tuesday at Weber State before opening the WAC home schedule next Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, against preseason favorite Seattle U.

ABOUT THE LANCERS
California Baptist took two out of three a Dixie State to open WAC play last weekend in St. George. The Lancers (12-19-1, 2-1) have lost three in a row coming into the series after falling in the finale of that series and dropping a doubleheader at Loyola Marymount on Wednesday. Katelyn Magrello leads CBU with a .342 batting average and three home runs, and is tied for the team lead with 15 RBIs. Pitcher Gretchen Goldsmith leads the WAC with a 2.70 ERA — just in front of Cretz' 2.95 ERA, which is good enough for second.
