Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Utah Valley shuts out in-state rival Weber State, 3-0

OGDENHeather Stainbrook scored the game winner in the first half and Sadie Brockbank and Breanna Eves each found the back of the net in the second half to lead Utah Valley to a 3-0 shutout road win at in-state rival Weber State.

Utah Valley improves to 3-0 for the first time since the 2008 season with the win. Weber State falls to 1-1 with the loss.

"We're proud of the effort tonight," said Utah Valley associate head coach Kyle Christensen. "We have a lot of soccer this week with three games. We were able to get the players the minutes that we wanted and now we have to recover as we have a quick turnaround against a tough opponent in USC. We look forward to it though. The girls are ready and we're excited and we'll put our best foot forward and get after it."

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in the 11th minute when Amber Tripp fired a shot from the right side that deflected off the Weber State keeper. Heather Stainbrook then rebounded the shot inside the box and punched it into the back of the net to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead.

Grace Beeston sent a ball from the left corner into the middle of the field where it got headed to the top right corner of the box. Sadie Brockbank gathered the ball and then sent a shot with her right foot up and out of the reach of the WSU keeper to give UVU a 2-0 advantage.

Breanna Eves intercepted a pass from a WSU player and kicked a shot with her left foot near the top of the box to right post and past the keeper for the goal, giving the Wolverines a 3-0 lead in the 73rd minute.

Utah Valley outshot Weber State 12-9 on the night. The Wolverine defense picked up its second shutout of the season with the clean sheet. Brockbank led the Wolverines with a match-high five shots, including two on frame. Stainbrook had two shots, while five other UVU players recorded one.

Utah Valley now preps for a showdown with 25th-ranked USC on Saturday night at Clyde Field in Orem. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
