TUSCALOOSA, Alabama—The Utah Valley University women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play with a 3-0 road loss to Alabama on Sunday evening at Alabama Soccer Stadium.
The Wolverines finish non-league play with a 5-4-0 record and now open WAC play on Thursday at home against Grand Canyon.
"I thought we put together some really good sequences, but unfortunately there were times we didn't do as well," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We are now going to focus all of our energy on getting recovered and starting WAC play at 0-0. We now get to reset. We certainly got what we wanted out of the non-conference segment of the schedule. We challenged ourselves and we learned a lot. We've identified areas where we need to improve and that's what we're going to focus on."
Alabama's Ashlynn Serepca scored a pair of first-half goals in the 19th and 26th minutes to give the Crimson Tide a 2-0 lead at the half. Macy Clem then scored a third goal for Alabama in the 47th minute to secure the team the 3-0 win.
Alabama outshot Utah Valley 15-10 on the night and edged the Wolverines 7-6 on shots on goal. Utah Valley had six corner kicks to Alabama's four.
Grace Beeston and
Sadie Brockbank led UVU with three shots apiece.
Amber Tripp,
Hannah Harrison,
Breanna DeWaal, and
Nicole Ray each had one.
Brooklyn Nielsen led UVU in the box with three saves in 82 minutes of play.
Makiah Herrin also recorded a save in eight minutes of action.
Utah Valley returns to Orem to open WAC play on Thursday against Grand Canyon at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. The Wolverines will also host New Mexico State on Saturday at 6 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
