SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah – Utah Valley University freshman
Leighton Shosted and sophomore
Lauren Taylor teamed up to card a 5-under-par 67 at Monday's U.S. Women's Four-Ball Qualifier at Talons Cove Golf Club en route to winning the event and qualifying to compete at the 2022 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
The Wolverine duo combined to record five birdies on the day—with Shosted sinking four of them—to top four other teams that competed for a spot to qualify for the U.S. Women's Four-Ball Championship. The team of Madison Moman and Haley Davis finished second next with a 3-under-69, while Arden Louchheim and Gigi Lund finished with an even-par 72 to finish third, Emry Gibbs and Maddie Montoya posted a 1-over-par 73 to place fourth, and Karen Seaman and Kareen Larson rounded out the field with a 6-over 78.
With just two collegiate tournaments under her belt, the freshman Shosted is leading the Wolverines on the young season with a 75.67 scoring average while Taylor is currently third on the squad with a 77.00 scoring clip. Shosted was UVU's top finisher at the most-recent Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational by tying for 35th with an 11-over-par 224 (77-74-73), while Taylor led the way for UVU at the season-opening Hobble Creek Fall Classic by placing 13th with a 7-over-par 220 (75-73-72).
The 2022 USGA Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be held April 20-24, 2022, at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. It will mark the first time a USGA championship will be contested outside the mainland in a U.S. territory.
