LOGAN—Utah State scored a golden goal with just over a minute remaining in the second and final overtime to hand Utah Valley a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Aggies on Friday evening at Chuck & Gloria Bell Soccer Field in Logan, Utah.
The loss is the second straight for the Wolverines who fall to 3-2-0 on the season. The Aggies remain unbeaten and improve to 4-0-1.
"The team that wanted it more won today," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "Tonight was a disappointing performance from our team and I take full responsibility. We will try and compete better Monday to give ourselves a chance to get a result."
Utah State took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Sara Taylor put in a goal off her right foot toward the center of the net.

Grace Beeston fired in the equalizer in the 37th minute as she received a pass into the box where she gathered it and fired a shot into the right side of the goal for the score. The goal is Beeston's first goal of the season and the first of her collegiate career. Beeston's goal was assisted by both
Sadie Brockbank and
Julianna Carter.
Utah State's Ashley Cardozo scored the game winner in the 109th minute as she lofted a shot from about 20 yards into the upper right corner of the net.
Utah State outshot the Wolverines 16-10 on the night with UVU holding an 8-4 advantage on shots on goal. The Aggies had seven corner kicks to UVU's six. Beeston and
Sadie Brockbank led UVU with three shots each.
Breanna DeWaal had a pair of shots, while
Amber Tripp and
Sydney Bushman each had one.
Brooklyn Nielsen recorded two saves in the box.
Utah Valley now returns to Orem to host San Jose State on Monday at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for noon. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
