OREM—
London Miller and
Sadie Brockbank each scored goals while the Utah Valley defense picked up its third shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over San Jose State on Monday at Clyde Field.
"I thought it was the reaction that we needed after the result on Friday," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We needed to bounce back and just be us. I thought we were really good in possession and the team reacted really well. We scored two beautiful goals and certainly the clean sheet is the icing on the cake."
Utah Valley (4-2-0) got on the scoreboard just before halftime as
Breanna Eves sent a ball to
Ashley Hughes just inside the box on the right side. Hughes then sent a pass to
London Miller who fired a shot past the SJSU keeper to the left side of the box for the score to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute.
Sadie Brockbank pushed UVU's lead to a 2-0 advantage in the 56th minute after
Amber Tripp kept the ball from a defender near the top of the box. Tripp then flicked the ball over to
Heather Stainbrook who then led Brockbank with a pass. Brockbank then fired a shot into the right upper 90 for the goal.
The Utah Valley defense recorded its third shutout win of the season with
Brooklyn Nielsen recording a save in the box. The Wolverines held a 61 percent possession advantage in the match.
Utah Valley outshot the Spartans 13-7 on the day, including a 4-2 advantage on goal. Stainbrook led UVU with three shots, while
Manthy Brady had two. Eight other Wolverines had one shot each.
