Wolverines host Chicago State Thursday night

OPENING TIP
  • Utah Valley University continues its current homestand on Thursday against Chicago State University. Tip is set for 6 p.m. MT from the UCCU Center and the game will air live on ESPN+.
     
  • The Wolverines (8-10, 3-4) have won three of their last four games and, after playing five of their first six conference games on the road, are in the midst of four straight at home. Due to COVID postponements, UVU just wrapped up a stretch of five games in 10 days in four different cities.
     
  • Josie Williams leads UVU and ranks second in the WAC at 16.2 points per game while leading the league and ranking ninth in the country at 11.6 rebounds per contest. She's also recorded 12 double-doubles, which is tied for seventh nationally. Maria Carvalho is averaging 12.8 points and Madison Grange is at 10.4 per game for the Wolverines.
     
  • Williams is 22 points shy of becoming the ninth UVU player to score 1,000 points in her career during the program's NCAA Division I era.
     

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley University had three players reach double figures and opened a four-game homestand with a 65-51 win over Seattle University on Monday afternoon. The Wolverines also got a season-high 33 points from their bench to move to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in WAC play and have now won three of the last four games.

Maria Carvalho led UVU with 16 points, Babalu Stewart set a new career-high with 13 points, and Josie Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds. Carvalho, Megan Jensen and Eleyana Tafisi each had three steals with the Wolverines collecting 14 as a team. Stewart also pulled down seven rebounds to help UVU to a 38-26 advantage on the glass.

COMING UP
Next week the Wolverines will host Stephen F. Austin (Feb. 3) and Sam Houston (Feb. 5) in Lockhart Arena.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Chicago State came from 16 points down to defeat New Mexico State on Tuesday to win for the first time at home in three years. Freshman Aaliyah Collins leads the team at 16.1 points per game and is a four-time WAC Freshman of the Week. She was also named the USBWA Freshman of the Week on Jan. 18. UVU leads the all-time series 21-10 and has won six straight and 12 of 13 in the series.
