Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Utah Valley shuts out Stephen F. Austin, 2-0

OREMFaith Webber and Sydney Bushman each scored a goal while the Wolverine defense picked up its fourth shutout of the season to lift the Utah Valley women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night at Clyde Field.

Utah Valley improves to 9-3-3 overall and 5-1-1 in WAC play. The Wolverines push their record at home to 6-1-1. SFA falls to 4-10-1 overall and 3-5-0 in league play.

"I thought we were mature and professional in the way we were able to grind out a win tonight," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "I'm always going to hold us to a high standard, and I don't think we hit that standard tonight. We can't keep going to steps forward and one step back. We've got to continue to improve on previous performances and tonight wasn't our best one, but we got a good result."

Jenna Shepherd came up from her backline position with the ball towards the box and passed it over to Webber. Webber quickly passed it in the middle of the box to Hannah Lee who returned it right back to Webber. Webber then fired a shot past the SFA keeper on the left side and into the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.

Utah Valley extended its lead in the 71st minute as Heather Stainbrook sent a free kick pass into the box to Bushman who then sent it in the goal to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead.

Idalia Serrano picked up the shutout win in the box for the Wolverines. Serrano finished the night with four saves. The Wolverine defense picks up its fourth clean sheet of the season.

Utah Valley outshot SFA 24-7 on the night and had a 5-4 advantage on goal. Webber and Stainbrook each tallied a match-high seven shots each.

Utah Valley now travels to the Lone Star State next week to take on Abilene Christian and Tarleton. UVU will play ACU on Friday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. MT before taking on Tarleton on Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon MT.
