SALT LAKE CITY — Caila Odekirk made her season debut for Utah Valley University and finished second on Thursday at the Utah Open at Sunnyside Park in the final tune-up before the WAC Championships next weekend.
Odekirk was the top attached finisher, running her 5k in 18:40.4 with
Agnieszka Lubowska the next Wolverine, in seventh with a time of 19:14.6.
Kate Heywood was 12th (19:30.4),
Hailey Odekirk finished 14th (19:37.7), and
Mara Holmes took 16th (19:46.5) to round out the scoring Utah Valley harriers. UVU finished second behind Utah State's contingent of runners.
Andrew Blackham was the top finisher for the Wolverine men in terms of attached athletes, taking seventh in the 6k with a time of 20:04.4.
Simon Mitchell, who was running unattached, finished sixth in 19:56.0.
Jason Hoffman was just behind Blackham, taking ninth with a time of 20:13.04.
Bridger Isbell (20:33.6),
Kaleb Paulsen (20:34.8), and
Jacob Egan (20:57.6) finished 14th-16th and were the other three men to factor into the team score. Utah State's men's side also finished first as a team.
Many of Utah Valley's runners were off this week in preparations for the WAC Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Pecan Acres Park in Nacogdoches, Texas. The pre-championships polls will be released next week leading up to the races.
