CEDAR CITY, Utah — Freshman
Ari Trimble took first place as the 19th-ranked Utah Valley University women's cross country team won the team title at the SUU Color Country Invitational on Saturday at Cedar Ridge Golf Course.
Trimble ran the 4k in 14:24.17 with the Wolverines taking five of the top eight spots.
Elizabeth Zwahlen was third with a time of 14:41.92, followed by
Abby Linford (5th, 15:00.15),
Hailey Odekirk (7th, 15:09.41), and
Mara Holmes (8th, 15:10.41), to give the team 24 points and the win.
It's the third time in the first four events of the season the UVU women have had the individual winner.
Everlyn Kemboi, who was off on Saturday in preparation for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational next week, took first at the UVU Invitational and also set a collegiate course record in winning last week's Paul Short Run in Lehigh University.
Thomas Pickford was the top finisher on the men's side, running the 6k in 19:27.23 for a sixth-place finish.
Jima Rout, running unattached, was right behind him in seventh (19:32.79), followed by
Andrew Blackham (19:41.55), who took eighth.
Bridger Isbell (13th, 20:07.15),
Jacob Egan (20th, 20:42.29), and Bridger McCurdy (22nd, 21:35.09) were the next three UVU men to factor into the team score. The Wolverines finished third with SUU winning the 6k.
The Wolverines sent a small contingent of harriers to compete against host Southern Utah and Utah Tech on Saturday. Utah Valley is now set to compete at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational next Friday, Oct. 14 in races that will pit them against some of the nation's top programs.
