PROVO—Utah Valley dropped a 3-0 decision to crosstown rival BYU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night at South Field in Provo, Utah.
Utah Valley wraps up its season with a 14-5-3 overall record. The 14 wins ties the school recird for wins in a season. The Wolverines won the WAC regular season title and earned the team's first-ever at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
BYU took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute as Zoe Jacobs sent a shot from the top of the box that bounced off the crossbar and back to Allie Fryer who then kicked the rebound into the net to give the Cougars the 1-0 advantage.
The Cougars went up 2-0 after Tara Warner put a ball into the net toward the near post. BYU then scored again in the 79th minute as Rachel McCarthy went one-on-one with a UVU defender and took a shot far post and into the net to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
BYU outshot the Wolverines 21-11 on the night, including an 10-5 advantage on frame.
Heather Stainbrook and
Hannah Lee led UVU with three shots apiece.
Faith Webber had two shots while
Nicole Ray had one.
Leah Wolf led UVU in goal with six saves.
