After clinching a spot in the WAC Tournament with a comeback victory on Senior Night, the fourth-seeded Utah Valley men's soccer team will begin its quest for its first-ever tourney title, taking on the fifth-seed host California Baptist on Wednesday in Riverside, California.
The Wolverines clinched their spot in the tournament with a 2-1 win over these same Lancers on Friday night at Clyde Field. Nico Torres scored the equalizer in the 75th minute that assured the Wolverines of a spot in the quarterfinals, and Mark Andros scored the winner in the 88th minute to put the Wolverines line for the No. 4 seed following the conclusion of Saturday's games around the WAC.Â
ABOUT THE LANCERS
Friday's defeat at the hands of Utah Valley was CBU's first loss in five games. After an 0-2-1 start to league play, the Lancers rebounded with a 4-0-1 run to secure a top-six spot before the final match. CBU has been excellent at home this season, posting a 6-1-2 record at CBU Soccer Stadium.

Wednesday's meeting between the two schools will be the first-ever postseason meeting. Utah Valley holds a 4-1 advantage all-time, including wins in the last two meetings. The Wolverines road trip to CBU was a 2-1 victory back in 2021. Mateo Palomino scored the game-winner in the 77th minute.Â
HISTORY AT THE WAC TOURNAMENT
The Wolverines hold a 3-4-2 all-time record at the WAC Tournament. Utah Valley has qualified for the tournament in four-straight fall campaigns and seven of nine overall. The Wolverines lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to San Jose State in last year's tournament.Â
CLYDE FIELD FORTRESS
Friday's victory over CBU clinched the program's first-ever unbeaten home campaign, going 5-0 at Clyde Field. The Wolverines out-scored their competition 10-1 at home, and also out-shot the opposition 65-37, including a 33-7 mark on goal.Â
GETTING HOT AT THE RIGHT TIME
Utah Valley comes into the postseason riding a three-game win streak, and have won five of their last seven. Over their last seven games, the Wolverines are out-scoring the opposition 12-3 and out-shooting them 102-49 (51-11 on goal).
BRICK WALL BACK LINE
The Utah Valley defense kicked it into high gear as the season went along. In WAC play, the Wolverines allowed just eight goals, the second-fewest in the league behind San Jose State's five. Utah Valley ranks 25th in the nation in shutouts with seven.
HELPING A BROTHER OUT
Sophomore midfielder Alejandro Silva has been the heartbeat of the midfield for the Wolverines this season. Silva has a team-high six assists to go along with his two goals on the season. Silva's assist-per-game average ranks in the top 100 among Division I athletes and is tied for 2nd in the WAC.
