OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University will play its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday when the University of Idaho comes to the UCCU Center for a 2 p.m. tip.
The Wolverines (2-8) got career-highs of 15 points and six rebounds from Ally Criddle but their comeback attempt ran out of time at Fresno State on Saturday, 53-48. Eleyana Tafisi had 10 points while Kaylee Byon set a new high with eight points.
UVU is led in scoring by Jaeden Brown, who missed Saturday's game at Fresno State due to illness. She is averaging 11.9 points while she and Shay Fano share the team lead at 6.4 rebounds per game.
UP NEXT
After a short break for Christmas, the Wolverines will begin WAC play on Dec. 29 when they host Grand Canyon at 2 p.m. in the first game of a women's and men's conference doubleheader. UVU will then travel to St. George to play at Utah Tech on New Year's Eve.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Idaho is coached by Jon Newlee, who is in his 15th season in Moscow. He enters Wednesday two wins shy of 250 during his tenure with the Vandals. Idaho defeated Grand Canyon on the road on Sunday in overtime, 81-78, after coming from 11 points down and getting a 3-pointer with less than a second to go from Sydney Gandy to force OT.
Gandy had 20 in the win over GCU and averages 11.8 per contest with the Vandals led in scoring by Beyonce Bea, who averages 23.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Her scoring average leads the Big Sky and ranks seventh in the country. Idaho has won all four prior meetings against Utah Valley but the teams have not played since the 2014 season.
