UVU hosts Tarleton Wednesday in Lockhart

OPENING TIP
  • Following last week's successful 2-0 road trip, Utah Valley returns home this week to host Tarleton and Dixie State. The Wolverines (11-12, 6-6) welcome Tarleton to Orem for the first time in a Wednesday contest that tips at 6 p.m. MT. Dixie State will be in town on Saturday for a 2 p.m. MT start. Both games will be played in Lockhart Arena and can be seen live on ESPN+.
  • UVU defeated Grand Canyon and New Mexico State on the road last week and were led in scoring by Madison Grange in both contests. Grange scored 20 and buried four 3-pointers against the Lopes in Phoenix, a 58-50 win. Two days later she led a balanced attack with 13 in a 66-32 rout of the Aggies in Las Cruces.
  • Josie Williams leads UVU with 16.0 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. She ranks fifth in the country in rebounds per game while her scoring average is second in the WAC. Grange ranks fourth in the WAC in three-point percentage, at 41.8% and Maria Carvalho is sixth in the league with 3.5 assists per game.
  • Williams recorded her 17th double-double of the season on Saturday against New Mexico State, which is tied for fifth among all NCAA Division I players. She also moved into second all-time in UVU's single-season record book. Sam Jensen owns the school record with 20 double-doubles during the 2012-13 season.
  • Utah Valley enters the week in sixth place in the WAC standings, with just one game in the loss column separating six teams sitting fourth through ninth place. The top six postseason eligible teams will all receive a first-round bye at the WAC Tournament in March, while seeds 7-10 will play in the first round on Tuesday, March 8.

LAST TIME OUT
UVU defeated Grand Canyon and New Mexico State on the road last week and were led in scoring by Madison Grange in both contests. Grange scored 20 and buried four 3-pointers against the Lopes in Phoenix, a 58-50 win. Two days later she led a balanced attack with 13 in a 66-32 rout of the Aggies in Las Cruces.

Against the Lopes, UVU used an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to go up by 17. GCU mounted late charge and got within five with 1:20 to go, but would get no closer.

At NM State, led 11-6 before a 20-0 run put the Aggies away early. The Wolverines held NM State to opponent season lows of 32 points on 20% shooting and without a 3-pointer made.

COMING UP
UVU will embark on its final road trip of the WAC regular season next week. The Wolverines will play at Seattle U on Thursday, Feb. 24 and at California Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 26.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Tarleton is 13-10 overall and 5-7 in WAC play. The Texans aren't eligible for the WAC Tournament but their results will certainly factor into who does and doesn't earn byes in the first two rounds of the tournament. Iyana Dorsey leads Tarleton with 10.3 points per game while Malaya Kendrick averages 9.8 points per contest.

UVU is 2-1 all-time against Tarleton with all three prior games coming in Stephenville, Texas. In the first meeting this season, the Texans outscored the Wolverines 26-11 in the final quarter to turn a two-point deficit into a 13-point win. Grange led UVU with 19 while Dorsey led all scorers with 20.
