Freshman Leighton Shosted is leading the way for UVU as she sits in a tie for 29th place after carding a 13-over 157 (79-78) on Monday at Bakersfield Country Club.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Utah Valley University women's golf team opened its first day of the spring season by carding a 61-over-par 637 to sit in 10th place after two rounds of play on Monday at The Valley Invitational at Bakersfield Country Club in Bakersfield, California.

"It was a beautiful day in Bakersfield today shaking some winter rust off and sharpening up our games," UVU head coach Juli Erekson said. "I'm happy with the learning taking place and hope we can build awareness and adjust faster as we tighten up what each girl needs to do to finish strong."

Freshman Leighton Shosted is leading the way for the Wolverines, as she sits in a tie for 29th place with a 13-over 157. Shosted carded rounds of 79 and 78 on her way to currently sitting in the top 30 at the two-day and 54-hole event. The UVU freshman recorded a total of four birdies in each round as she leads the event with eight birdies after Monday's opening day of action.
