OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University is set for two midweek games at in-state opponents this week before hosting Seattle University in a three-game WAC series on the weekend. The Wolverines (10-9, 1-2) will play games at Weber State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. MT and at Utah State at 3 p.m. MT on Wednesday. On Friday, UVU and Seattle U will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. with Saturday's finale slated for noon.

Madison Carr is batting .403 to lead the team while Kalena Shepherd is hitting .393 with four home runs and a team-high 19 RBIs, with 10 of those coming in five games last week. Megan Gibbs leads the club with six home runs and five doubles, and is slugging .698. Laynee Betanur had a pair of three-hit games at Dixie State and hit .571 last week and now sits at .343 overall.

UVU and Weber State (20-6) met earlier this season in a tournament at Dixie State, a game the Wildcats won on a walk-off walk in the seventh inning. WSU's non-conference schedule has included a 12-game winning streak. Weber State will also be in Orem for a midweek game on April 5.

Utah State (12-15) hosted the Aggie Classic last week and went 2-2, with both wins coming against Maine. The Wolverines will also host the Aggies on April 27. Seattle U, the preseason favorite in the West Division, took two of three at home from California Baptist to open WAC play last week. UVU will also play a three-game series at Seattle on April 29-30.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines won the opening game at Dixie State, 6-4, behind Carter's complete-game performance and two-hit, three RBI game from Shepherd. Betancur also had her first of two, three-hit games in the series in the win. The Trailblazers came back to take game two of Friday's doubleheader, using a five-run fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead enroute to a 7-4 victory. Mikaela Thomson and Madison Carr had two hits apiece in the game for UVU.

The finale saw the Wolverines jump ahead 5-0 before Dixie State would go on to score 13 straight runs including seven in the sixth to end the game early. Linnah Rebolledo and Shepherd both homered for Utah Valley but the Trailblazers had four different players hit home runs, all with runners aboard. Betancur finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the game and was 7-for-10 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the series.

UP NEXT
Next week, first-year head coach Cody Thomson will return to his old team when UVU makes the short trip to Salt Lake City to face Utah on Tuesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. MT. Utah Valley will also travel to New Mexico State next weekend in WAC play.
