OREM, Utah — Utah Valley head coach Cody Thomson makes the return to Salt Lake City for the first time as a head coach when the Wolverines play at Utah on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Thomson was on staff at Utah since 2005 prior to taking over the UVU program this past summer. The game will air on the Pac 12 Networks.

The Wolverines (11-13, 2-4) will also travel to New Mexico State for a weekend series in WAC play. That three-game set begins Friday evening at 6 p.m. MT before a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. Friday's game will air on ESPN+ with the Saturday twin bill on the WAC Digital Network.

Madison Carr continues to lead the team in hitting, batting .420 at the top of the lineup while Kalena Shepherd is batting .403 with four home runs and 25 runs batted in. Megan Gibbs' six home runs lead the club while Mikaela Thomson has five homers and 23 RBIs. Both Gibbs and Thomson have recorded a two-home run game so far this season. In WAC play, Laynee Betancur is batting a team-high .571 with Shepherd hitting .455 with 11 RBIs.

Utah is 17-14 overall and 1-2 in Pac 12 play. The Utes split two games over the weekend in non-conference play against Weber State, with each team winning at home. Ellessa Bonstrom leads Utah with a .467 batting average, seven home runs and 30 batted in.

New Mexico State enters the week at 6-21 overall and 1-5 in WAC play after getting swept at California Baptist last weekend. The Aggies, who have lost six straight overall, are led by Jillian Taylor's .417 average while Ramsay Lopez has nine home runs. UVU and NM State will also meet in the final WAC series of the regular season in Orem on May 6-7.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley dropped two out of three to Seattle U in WAC play over the weekend. In UVU's win on Friday, a 9-1 victory in five innings, Katie Zuniga went the distance while Sheperd and Jaeden Barajas both were 2-for-3. The Wolverines ended the game early with a three-run fifth that included back-to-back triples by Victoria Vasquez and Danyé Albritton.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines will host Weber State next Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. MT before traveling to Phoenix for a conference series at current West Division leader Grand Canyon on April 8-9.
