KERRVILLE, Texas – A trio of Utah Valley University women's golfers sit in the top 15 after Monday's opening round of play at the 2022 WAC Women's Golf Championship at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, Texas.

Bailey Henley, and
Anna Lesa each fired an opening-round 5-over-par 77 on Monday, as the trio all sit in a tie for 13th place. The senior Henley led the way by carding a trio of birdies during the opening round, while both the freshman Shosted and the sophomore Lesa each recorded two birdies apiece. During Henley's front-nine, she pared five holes and also birdied three more.Â

As a team, UVU sits in sixth place at the nine-team conference championship after tallying a 25-over-par 313 on the day. The defending champion New Mexico States Aggies are leading the way with an 8-over-par 296, while Sam Houston and Seattle U are tied for second (301), UT Rio Grande Valley is in fourth (306), and Grand Canyon is in fifth (310). UVU will enter Tuesday's second round ahead of Lamar (317), Stephen F. Austin (332), and Chicago State (352).

Caylyn Ponich is next for the Wolverines after one round of play, as she's currently tied for 45th place at 10-over-par (82), while the reigning WAC champion
Victoria Estrada carded an opening-round 85 on Monday to sit in a tie for 49th place.

A trio of golfers are tied atop the individual lead, as GCU's Siripatsorn Patchana, and NM State's Alison Gastelum and Amelia McKee all posted 1-under-par 71s on Monday.
