Pair of Wolverines in top 25 after two rounds at WAC Championship

Leighton Shosted and Bailey Henley are leading the way for UVU as they both sit in a tie for 25th, while Victoria Estrada carded Utah Valley’s top score on the day with a 76.

KERRVILLE, Texas – Freshman Leighton Shosted and senior Bailey Henley are leading the way for Utah Valley University women's golf after two rounds of play at the 2022 WAC Women's Golf Championship, as they both sit in the top 25. The defending WAC champion Victoria Estrada also moved up eight spots on the leaderboard after carding a team-best 76 for UVU during Tuesday's second round of action at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, Texas.
 
With both Shosted and Henley tied for 13th to open the day after each recorded opening-round scores of 77 on Monday, the UVU duo the both recorded 8-over-par 80s on Tuesday to move into a tie for 25th place with identical 13-over-par 157s. Shosted put up 12 pars in windy conditions during round number two, while Henley had 11. 
 
Opening Tuesday in a tie for 49th place, UVU's Estrada put up a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to move into 41st place with a two-round score of 17-over-par 161. After tallying an 85 during Monday's opening round, the reigning WAC champion for UVU Estrada posted 12 pars and one birdie on Tuesday on her way to carding the 76. 
 
As a team, UVU will enter Wednesday's final round in a tie for sixth place out of nine teams with at 56-over-par (632). After opening with a 313 on Monday, UVU then carded a 31-over 319 on Tuesday. The defending WAC champion New Mexico State Aggies are leading the way at 21-over-par (296-301—597), while Sam Houston is six strokes back for second (603). Seattle U follows in third (611), Grand Canyon fourth (619), and UT Rio Grande Valley fifth (627). Lamar is tied with UVU for sixth with a 632, while Stephen F. Austin follows in eighth (644), and Chicago State is in ninth (697). 
 
Anna Lesa and Caylyn Ponich round out UVU's competitors at the conference championship, as Lesa sits in 43rd at 18-over (77-85—162) and Ponich is in 48th at 21-over (82-83—165). UVU will make a substitute for Wednesday's final round and Lauren Taylor will get the start for Lesa. 
 
GCU's Siripatsorn Patchana is leading the way on the individual leaderboard at 2-under-par (71-71). She'll enter Wednesday's final round just one stroke ahead of NM State's Amelia McKee as she sits at -1 (71-72).
