PROVO, Utah — Utah Valley came up short in a pitcher's duel at BYU, 2-0, on Wednesday in the UCCU Crosstown Clash at Gail Miller Field. With her bunt single to begin the game, UVU senior

Lyndsay Steverson from the end of the 2018 and start of 2019 season.
In Wednesday's contest, BYU starter Chloe Temples struck out 10 in the complete-game, three-hit shutout win for the Cougars (26-10). For the Wolverines (16-18),
Brooke Carter started and tossed the first three innings with
Katie Zuniga pitching three scoreless frames in relief.
BYU took a 1-0 lead in the second on a two-out, RBI single off the bat of HannahJo Peterson. The Cougars tacked on one more in the third on an RBI single from Huntyr Ava, but the Wolverines avoided a big inning when Mari Chavez lined out to Carr in center and Ava was doubled up at second to end the inning.
The Wolverines threatened to score in the fifth when
Mikaela Thomson led off with a double into the corner in left, but she was stranded at third to end the inning.
Kalena Shepherd had a one-out single in the seventh to get the potential tying run to the plate for Utah Valley, but Temples retired the final two hitters to end it.
UVU and BYU will also meet in Orem on May 4. The Wolverines are back in action on Thursday at home against Dixie State in the Old Hammer Rivalry. The WAC schools will play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. MT and a single game on Friday at noon in the three-game set.
