Utah Valley's McKinlay wins Alberta Men's Amateur Championship

ALBERTA, Canada—Utah Valley sophomore golfer Brady McKinlay shot a three-round score of 11-under-par 202 (66-66-70) this past week to win the Alberta Men's Amateur Championship at The Ranch Golf and Country Club in Acheson, Alberta, Canada.

McKinlay finished five strokes ahead of second place finisher Neil Thomas to claim the title in the 102-player field.

McKinlay has recorded four straight top-10 finishes dating back to a sixth place showing at the WAC Golf Championship in May. Since then, McKinlay finished fourth at the Glencoe Invitational, fifth at the Alberta Open Championship, and first at the Alberta Amateur.

"This win is number one ever," McKinlay said. "Even this summer, the finishes I've had have been great and to cap it off this three-week stretch with a win is more than I can ask for and hopefully there's more of these."

The Lacombe, Alberta native had girlfriend Caylyn Ponich, who is a member of the UVU women's golf team, caddy for him for the first time at the Alberta Amateur.

McKinlay led Utah Valley with a 72.72 stroke average this past season. He earned second team All-WAC honors and finished the season with four top-10 finishes. His best finish of the season was a second place showing at the Bandon Dunes Invitational.
