OREM, Utah – Utah Valley wrestling split a pair of duals on Friday inside the Lockhart Arena. The Wolverines defeated Snow College 43-6 before losing to Air Force 33-3. Big 12 Wrestler of the Week Ty Smith picked up a victory in the Air Force dual. Freshman Caleb Uhlenhopp saw his first dual action of the season, going 1-1 while taking No. 33 Noah Blake to overtime.
 
SNOW COLLEGE
Utah Valley won the first six bouts of the evening, with Kase Mauger (125) and James Emmer (141) winning by forfeit. The Wolverines picked up a victory from 133-pounder Kobe Nelms who won by a major decision 14-6. Nelms used three first-period takedowns to jump out to a 6-2 lead in the first period and added five more points in the second to take control of the match. The Wolverines led 16-0 after three matches.
 
Sam Edelblute earned UVU's second pin of the dual with a pin of Rhett Miner in 2:22. Kyler Lake kept the momentum going at 157 with three four-point near falls in the first period to take a 14-0 lead. Lake won by tech fall after an escape early in the second period to put UVU up 27-0. The Wolverines added a victory at 165 from Tanner Lofthouse by an 11-7 decision.
 
UVU led 30-0 before Snow got the lone victory in the dual when Zack Johnson pinned Mark Takara. The Wolverines took the remaining three matches on the evening, with Caleb Uhlenhopp picking up a major decision, Jack Forbes added a fall, and decisions came from Nico Rodriguez leading UVU to the 43-6 victory.
 
Hunter Morse and Kort Wilkinson picked up victories in extra matches. Morse won by decision 13-6, and Wilkinson pulled out a 2-0 hard-fought decision.
 
AIR FORCE
The Falcons led 10-0 after two matches with a victory from No. 29 Tucker Owens and a forfeit at 133. The reigning Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, Ty Smith, took a 2-0 lead after a first-period takedown and increased his lead to 5-1 after an escape and takedown. Smith allowed an escape in the third period and held on to a 6-2 decision.
 
Air Force picked up victories at 149, 157, and 165 to set up No. 7 Demetrius Romero and No. 21 Sam Wolf. Wolf tied the bout in the second on an escape before a takedown, which gave Wolf a 3-1 lead. Romero responded with a late escape in the second to make it 3-2. Romero scored on an escape to tie the score at 3-3. Wolf secured the victory with a takedown with seconds left in the third.
 
Uhlenhopp took No. 33 Noah Blake to overtime at 184 after each scored on an escape in regulation. The match was decided by riding time in the third overtime, with Blake earning the victory. Air Force won the final two matches at 197 and 285.
 
Kainalu Estrella picked up a 14-4 major decision over Kole Biscoe in an extra match. Estrella took a 4-1 lead in the first period and did not look back.
 
 
Utah Valley has two remaining duals left on the schedule with a trip to Wyoming on Feb. 4 for a 1:00 p.m. MT start, and they will conclude the home season with a dual against Northern Colorado.
