Wolverines host NM State on Wednesday in WAC play

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University returns to the UCCU Center this week and will host New Mexico State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. MT. The Wolverines (4-9, 1-1) split two games to open WAC play last week, defeating Grand Canyon in a double-overtime thriller, 65-63, before falling at Utah Tech on Saturday, 68-58.

Jaeden Brown was named the WAC Player of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 25.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.5 blocks per game. She had the program's first-ever 20-point, 20-rebound game against GCU and followed that up with a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds at UTU. Brown, who has recorded three straight double-doubles, leads the Wolverines with averages of 13.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, and a WAC-leading 2.3 blocks per game.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines will host California Baptist on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. MT. The Lancers play at Seattle U on Thursday. Next week, UVU will travel to Cedar City to face Southern Utah on Wednesday, Jan. 11 before returning home to host Abilene Christian on Jan. 14. 

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
New Mexico State enters Wednesday's contest at 6-8 overall and 1-1 in WAC play. The Aggies won at UTRGV on Dec. 29 to open conference play before falling at home to Southern Utah in a narrow 61-58 game on New Year's Eve. Molly Kaiser leads the team with an average of 11.5 points per game while Sylena Peterson is averaging 10.1 points. Head coach Jody Adams is in her first season at New Mexico State and has prior head coaching stops at Wichita State and Murray State. 

HISTORIC WEEK FOR BROWN
Sophomore Jaeden Brown was named the WAC Player of the Week on Jan. 3 after a week that saw her record the first 20-point, 20-rebound game in program history, followed by 31 points and 10 rebounds two days later. Her 20 points and 20 rebounds came in a 65-63, double-OT win over Grand Canyon. In her 31-point effort, she was 14-for-19 from the field and became the first UVU player to make at least 14 field goals in a single game since the 2009 season.
