SALT LAKE CITY — Caila Odekirk led Utah Valley University with a ninth-place finish at the Utah XC Open at Sunnyside Park on Thursday.
Emily Morden came in right behind her, in 10th.
The Wolverines had nine competitors on the women's side and only a handful of men running unattached in the men's race. The majority of the squad had the week off in preparation for the WAC Championships on Oct. 27.
Odekirk completed the 5k in 19:16.5 with Morden crossing the finish line in 19:20.2.
Graysen Lanenga was 12th overall with a time of 19:26.3, followed by
Olivia Larsen (15th, 19:37.9) and
Kelsi Lindley (20th, 20:08.3).
For the men, redshirt
Wyatt Mortenson landed in seventh place in the men's 6k with a time of 21:33.3.
Jacob Egan finished 22nd (22:22.2) and
Mack Waite was 33rd (23:07.5) to round out the UVU men; all three competed unattached.
Next week's WAC Championships will be held on Friday, Oct. 27 at Zoe Park in Abilene, Texas. The men's 8k will start at 8 a.m. CT/7 a.m. MT with the women's 6k schedule to begin at 8:45 a.m. CT/7:45 a.m. MT.
