ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley junior defender Kendi Bellini has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the match week ending on Oct. 22, the league announced on Tuesday.
Joining Bellini among the Player of the Week honorees are a pair of Lancers from California Baptist. CBU seniors Luis Mueller and Nolan Premack were named the WAC Offensive and Goalkeeper Players of the Week respectively.
Bellini anchored down the Wolverine back line in a 4-0 win over UTRGV on Saturday that held the Vaqueros to just two shots on goal. Early in the second half, Bellini made a sliding block to send a UTRGV shot wide that would've equalized for the Vaqueros.
The Wolverines have now gone three-straight home games and 284 minutes overall without allowing a goal. Utah Valley has allowed just two goals in five games at Clyde Field thus far, and have gone a program-record 10 games unbeaten at Clyde Field since the start of the 2022 season.
The Wolverines will face a tough test in their next game on Thursday when they host the preseason WAC favorites California Baptist at Clyde Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. MDT and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
